José Luis Ferrera (Madrid, 1940) studied architecture at the Oxford Technical College, England and the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas. He has worked in Venezuela, Spain, United States and Argentina. He has specialized in theatre architecture, theatre renewal and restoration, consultancy in theatre technical systems and direction and inspection of theatre projects. He worked from 1974 to 1986 as Chief Architect in the Architecture and Theatrical Systems Inspection Office during the construction of the Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas. In 1989 he was hired as Project Manager in situ by Hoffend and Sons Inc., of Rochester, USA, for the Project of Stage Remodeling and Mechanization of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At present he is dedicated to research and writing. He is a professional member of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Venezuela (CAV), of the Colegio de Ingenieros de Venezuela (CIV), of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM), of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), associate member of the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) and individual member of the Organisation Internationale des Scénographes, Techniciens et Architectes de Théâtre (OISTAT).
